Richard Lake Jr.

Director

Coach Lake started Tsunami Volleyball Club in 2009 and has been the Director of Sport for Clovis High Volleyball for 25+ years. Coach Lake is a Clovis High graduate where he was a two-time Sassano blanket recipient. Coach Lake has run both the boys and girls programs for many years where he has led his teams to 8 Boys TRAC titles, 3 Girls TRAC titles, 6 Boys Central Section titles, 2 Girls Central Section titles, 1 Boys Regional State titles, 2 Boys Regional State Runner-Up, 1 Girls Regional State Runner-Up.

Montana Kaufmann

Director of Operations

Coach Kaufmann grew up in Clovis, California where she attended Clovis High School and played four years of varsity volleyball under Richard Lake. She was a three-sport varsity athlete earning, three Sassano Blankets, and was awarded the CHS Athlete of the Year in 2013. In 2011, she was awarded ESPN 940am "Athlete of the Year" for the Central Valley. Coach Kaufmann played for Tsunami Volleyball Club her sophomore and junior club season, before finishing at Pacific Premier Volleyball Academy her senior season. During her senior year, she was recruited to play Indoor Volleyball and Track & Field at Fresno Pacific University. While at FPU, she earned a spot on the All-PacWest women's volleyball third team her senior year. 

Coach Kaufmann is now a PE teacher and the head varsity girls and boys coach at Sanger West High School. In Sanger West's second year as a program, Coach Kaufmann led her boys team to a NYL League title and was named Coach of the Year. She has also coached at Selma High School (2017-2019), indoor club volleyball, (PacPre 2015-2018, Tsunami 2018-Present), and beach volleyball (Shorebreak 2021-2022).

Trey Lake

Director of Development / Coach

Trey Lake is a true volleyball enthusiast who has made significant contributions to the game both as a player and a coach. Growing up, Trey had the extraordinary fortune of being raised by his father, Richard Lake, a legendary and highly acknowledged coach in the volleyball world, whose dual role as a parent and mentor played a significant part in shaping Trey's passion and success in the sport.

During Trey’s high school career at Clovis High, he was a four-year starter and three-year captain for the Clovis Cougars, leading the team to a league championship and a state regional championship. His exceptional skills and leadership abilities earned him accolades such as the Sassano Blanket Award and Male Athlete of the Year. His talent and dedication was further recognized with a college scholarship, paving the way for a successful playing career at Menlo College where he served as a 2 year starter during his 2 years in attendance.

Transitioning into coaching, Trey has spent the past six years coaching teams such as the Clovis High Men's & Women’s Teams, Tsunami Volleyball Club, Coast Volleyball Club, Menlo High School, and Academy Volleyball Club. Trey is excited to return to the Central Valley and continue coaching with Tsunami Volleyball Club, where he can continue to ignite his love for the game and inspire future generations.

Mike MacNeill

Coach
MacNeill grew up in Clovis, CA where he attended Clovis High School and played under Richard Lake. He then moved on to play at Cal Baptist where he had tremendous success as a player, having played in four NAIA national championship matches. The Lancers won the national championship in 2010 and 2011. MacNeill played as an outside hitter and libero, accomplishing many things in his time with the Lancers. In 2011, he led the country in aces per game. MacNeil set the single-match record in service aces against BYU with eight. He set single-season records in services aces per set (.52), total services aces (63), and digs (203) during the 2009 season. In 2008, he set the single-match record in hitting percentage against Holy Names, hitting .800 for the match.
MacNeill joined the Sunbirds from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas. In his first season with the Blue Jays, the team went 26-9 with a 19-6 conference record. They received votes nationally while being ranked third in blocks, eighth in service aces, 10th in digs, and 10th in assists in the country. The Blue Jays finished last season with a second-place finish in the KCAC, as MacNeil wrapped up his time at Tabor with a 43-21 record.
Before Tabor, MacNeill spent three seasons at the helm of Wiley College in Marshall, Texas. In those three seasons, the team went 52-25. MacNeill changed the culture of the program immediately, helping the team elevate their grade point average from 2.7 to 3.45 in his first season with the group.
The Wildcats' best season under MacNeill came in 2018, as they went 20-4. They earned a piece of the Red River Athletic Conference regular season championship and won the conference tournament on their way to the NAIA Championship Playoffs. MacNeil was named the conference’s Coach of the Year, as the team ranked 14th in the country in hitting percentage, 20th in blocks per game, and was inside the top 50 in assists per game.

Coach MacNeill is the former head coach at Fresno Pacific University. In his first year, FPU made its biggest one year leap in program history, leading FPU to a 2nd place PacWest finish by winning 15 games.

Benji Barbo
Coach
Coach Benji grew up in Clovis, California, and played at Clovis High School under Richard Lake. During his time at Clovis High, the teams he was a part of were league champions, Central Section runner-ups, and Division I State runner-ups. Coach Benji is on staff at Clovis High School for the boys and girls program and has coached with Tsunami Volleyball Club since 2020. Since his time with TVC, he led his 14s to win the 14 USA National Championships in 2023, he has led his 14s boys to win second in the NorCal power league, as well as winning the 14s division at Far Westerns in 2023. Coach Benji currently works at Clark Intermediate and is the director of operations for Clovis High girls' and boys' volleyball programs.

Makena Ogas

Coach

Coach Ogas played 4 years of varsity volleyball under Richard Lake. She earned the Sassano blanket her senior year at Clovis High. Coach Ogas went on to play four years of indoor volleyball at Fresno Pacific University. Her senior year at Fresno Pacific she earned a spot on the All-PacWest Second Team. Coach Ogas has three years of club coaching experience and currently teaches and coaches at Clovis High School.

Damian Vang
Coach

Coach Damian played volleyball at Clovis High under Richard Lake. Coach Damian has coached at Clovis High since 2017. In his first year of coaching the Frosh team, he went 10-0 and won league. In his second year, he went 8-2 also winning league. Since 2019, he has been the varsity assistant boy’s coach. In his time with Varsity, the team has been to 3 Central Section Finals and 2 Division 1 Regional State Championships. In 2023, Damian led his team to 3rd overall in NCVA League earning a bid for Junior Nationals.
